These slides are from our 2016 national conference, A Nation That Works: What's It Going to Take? The Council of State Governments Justice Center selected Milwaukee County as one of its pilot sites to test the implementation of the strategies outlined in its 2013 whitepaper, Integrated Reentry and Employment Strategies: Reducing Recidivism and Promoting Job Readiness. The whitepaper describes a proposed model for matching jobseekers returning to communities from incarceration with appropriate, effective employment services based on their skill development needs and risk of recidivism. Implementing and testing this model in the real world requires coordinating multiple public sector entities at the local and state levels, along with a wide range of community-based service providers. This session provided an overview of the Justice Center's IRES whitepaper and pilot project, and described the experiences of the agencies that partnered in order to make the project happen. Panelists shared lessons learned from year one of the pilot, which are relevant to a broad range of initiatives that require the coordination of multiple public agencies.
